Day-01 Arrive Quito

Arrive at Quito airport and proceed through immigration. Look for your guide who will be waiting for you just outside in the arrival hall with an Off The Map Adventures sign. With a warm welcome, your guide will assist you with your transportation and will bring you to your hotel overnight.

Day-02 Quito - Galapagos – San Cristobal Island – La Loberia

An early morning transfer brings you to the airport for your flight to the Galápagos Islands—an exciting gateway into one of the most unique ecosystems on Earth. As you arrive on San Cristóbal Island, you’ll immediately sense the shift in pace and atmosphere. Before entering the islands, you will pass through the Galápagos National Park control, a process designed to protect this fragile and extraordinary environment—your first introduction to the careful stewardship that defines the islands.

From here, we continue to your hotel, where you can settle in and take in your surroundings—rugged volcanic landscapes, fresh ocean air, and the anticipation of the journey ahead.

In the afternoon, we set out for La Lobería, a pristine coral sand beach just outside the main town. This is one of the best places to encounter the iconic Galápagos sea lions in their natural habitat. As you approach the shoreline, you may find them lounging on the sand, playfully interacting in the shallows, or curiously observing their visitors—offering a truly intimate and unforgettable wildlife experience.

The beach itself provides a beautiful setting for a relaxed coastal walk, with dramatic volcanic formations and sweeping ocean views creating a striking backdrop for photography.

If time and conditions permit, there may also be an opportunity for your first snorkeling experience in the Galápagos, where you could swim alongside playful sea lions, observe colorful reef fish, and explore the vibrant underwater world.

As the day winds down, the soft golden light of late afternoon casts a magical glow over the coastline—an ideal moment to pause, reflect, and take in the beauty of this remarkable place. This first day sets the tone for your journey ahead: close encounters with wildlife, raw natural beauty, and the feeling of being truly “off the map.”

Day-03 San Cristobal - Kicker Rock or Isla Lobos

Today offers the opportunity to explore one of the most iconic and breathtaking marine environments in the Galápagos.

We may set out by boat toward León Dormido (Kicker Rock)—a dramatic volcanic formation rising sharply from the ocean, creating a natural channel between its towering cliffs. This site is widely regarded as one of the premier snorkeling locations in the archipelago. As you enter the water, you may find yourself surrounded by an incredible array of marine life, including sea turtles, rays, schools of colorful fish, and, if conditions are favorable, even Galápagos sharks or hammerhead sharks gliding through the deeper waters. The experience is both exhilarating and humbling, offering a true connection to the richness of the ocean.

Alternatively, depending on logistics, we may visit Lobos Island, a serene and wildlife-rich environment known for its large colonies of playful sea lions, as well as nesting blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds. A gentle walk across the island reveals its unique landscapes, while the surrounding waters provide excellent opportunities for snorkeling in calmer conditions.

The final excursion will be determined based on park regulations, sea conditions, and operational considerations, ensuring the best possible experience for the group.

Whether by land or sea, today promises unforgettable encounters with the remarkable wildlife that makes the Galápagos Islands so extraordinary.

Day-04 San Cristobal - Santa Cruz Highlands

This morning, we transfer to the airport for our inter-island flight to Santa Cruz, one of the most diverse and vibrant islands in the Galápagos. Upon arrival, the journey continues inland toward the lush highlands, where the landscape transforms dramatically—from coastal arid zones to misty green forests.

As we ascend, you’ll notice a striking change in vegetation, with Scalesia forests, ferns, and humid highland ecosystems creating a cool and refreshing environment unlike the coastal regions. This transition offers a fascinating glimpse into the ecological diversity that makes the Galápagos so unique.

We then visit a private ranch, one of the best places to observe the iconic Galápagos giant tortoises roaming freely in their natural habitat. These gentle, ancient creatures—some over a century old—move peacefully through the fields, often grazing or resting in shallow ponds. Seeing them in the wild is a truly humbling experience and one of the most memorable highlights of any visit to the islands.

This day offers a beautiful balance of landscapes, wildlife, and discovery—bringing you closer to the natural wonders that define the Galápagos.

Day-05 Exc. Floriena (or another Island)

Today we set out by boat to the storied shores of Floreana Island, one of the first islands in the Galápagos to be inhabited, rich in history, mystery, and natural beauty.

Our visit begins at Post Office Bay (Bahía de Correos), a site steeped in maritime tradition dating back to the 18th century. Here, early whalers and sailors left letters in a simple wooden barrel, relying on passing ships to deliver them. Today, this unique tradition continues—visitors are invited to leave a postcard or hand-deliver one, creating a meaningful and memorable connection across the globe.

From here, we explore the island’s striking coastline, including its distinctive green-hued beaches, formed from volcanic minerals—a rare and fascinating feature of Floreana. The surrounding waters are calm and inviting, offering excellent conditions for swimming and marine exploration.

If conditions permit, there will be an opportunity to enjoy snorkeling in the clear, turquoise waters, where you may encounter sea turtles, tropical fish, and playful sea lions in their natural habitat.

With its blend of history, unique landscapes, and abundant marine life, Floreana offers a deeply enriching and diverse Galápagos experience.

Day-06 Santa Cruz - Isabella – Tintoreras

This morning, we travel by speedboat to Isabela Island, the largest island in the Galápagos and one of the most ecologically diverse in the archipelago. As you approach, the dramatic volcanic landscapes and expansive coastlines set the stage for another unforgettable day of discovery.

In the afternoon, we head to Las Tintoreras, a small group of islets just off the coast, surrounded by striking turquoise waters. This unique site is known for its narrow lava channels, where white-tip reef sharks—locally known as “tintoreras”—can often be seen resting in the calm, shallow waters. From above, you may observe these graceful creatures gliding quietly beneath the surface.

As we explore the area on foot and by water, keep an eye out for marine iguanas basking on the lava rocks, playful sea lions, and, with a bit of luck, the rare and charming Galápagos penguins along the rocky shoreline.

If time and conditions permit, there will be an opportunity to enjoy snorkeling in the clear waters, offering a closer look at the vibrant marine life that thrives in this protected environment.

With its dramatic scenery and rich biodiversity, Las Tintoreras offers a perfect blend of wildlife encounters and natural beauty—another highlight in your Galápagos journey.

Day-07 Isabela - Walls of Tear Wetlands

Today offers a unique opportunity to explore Isabela Island at a relaxed pace, either by bicycle or on foot, combining history, nature, and scenic beauty.

Our journey takes us along a quiet coastal path toward the Wall of Tears (El Muro de las Lágrimas)—a powerful and moving historical site built by prisoners in the 1940s. Constructed from volcanic rock under harsh conditions, this solitary structure stands as a reminder of the island’s past, offering a moment of reflection amidst an otherwise pristine landscape.

Along the way, the experience unfolds through a series of ever-changing environments. We pass through mangrove forests, secluded white-sand beaches, and tranquil coastal lagoons, each teeming with life. These wetlands are often home to a variety of bird species, including flamingos, herons, and migratory birds, creating wonderful opportunities for wildlife observation and photography.

The route itself is gentle and scenic, allowing you to fully take in the surroundings—the sound of the ocean, the stillness of the lagoons, and the raw beauty of Isabela’s untouched coastline.

This experience beautifully blends history, wildlife, and landscape, offering a deeper connection to the island beyond its more well-known highlights.

Day-08 Isabela - Sierra Negra OR Lava Tunnels

Option 1: Sierra Negra Volcano

Set out for a guided hike to Sierra Negra, home to one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world. As you ascend, the landscape gradually transforms into a dramatic, almost otherworldly terrain of hardened lava fields and expansive volcanic formations. At the summit, you are rewarded with sweeping views across the vast crater—an immense, silent reminder of the island’s powerful geological forces. This experience is both visually striking and deeply humbling, offering insight into the origins of the Galápagos Islands.

Option 2: Cabo Rosa – Los Túneles

Alternatively, embark on a boat excursion to Cabo Rosa (Los Túneles), a unique coastal environment formed by collapsed lava tunnels that create a maze of natural arches and crystal-clear pools. As you navigate through this extraordinary setting, you’ll encounter a rich variety of marine life.
If conditions permit, enjoy snorkeling in these calm waters, where you may observe sea turtles, eagle rays, reef sharks, and even seahorses among the intricate lava formations. Above the water, the area is also known for its nesting seabirds and tranquil, picturesque scenery.
Whichever experience you choose, today highlights the incredible diversity of Isabela Island—where volcanic landscapes and marine ecosystems come together in truly unforgettable ways.

Day-09 Isabela - Santa Cruz - Flight to Quito

This morning, we begin our journey back from the Galápagos with a speedboat transfer to Santa Cruz Island, offering one final opportunity to take in the coastal landscapes and the rhythms of island life.

Upon arrival, we continue across the island toward Baltra Airport for your return flight to mainland Ecuador. As you depart the archipelago, you carry with you the memories of its extraordinary wildlife, unique landscapes, and deeply enriching experiences.

Landing in Quito, you will be warmly received and transferred to your hotel. The return to the mainland brings a gentle shift in pace, allowing time to unwind and reflect on the remarkable journey you have just experienced in one of the world’s most unique natural environments.

Day-10 Quito - Am CSS - PM Cotopaxi

This morning, we explore the cultural heart of Ecuador with a guided tour of Quito’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its beautifully preserved colonial architecture. Stroll through Plaza Grande, the city’s central square, surrounded by important landmarks including the Cathedral and the Presidential Palace. Continue to the stunning La Compañía Church, often considered one of the most ornate churches in South America, with its intricate gold-leaf interior. Along the way, enjoy scenic viewpoints that offer sweeping vistas over the city’s red-tiled rooftops and the surrounding Andean hills.

In the afternoon, we leave the city behind and journey into the highlands toward Cotopaxi National Park, home to one of the world’s highest active volcanoes, rising to an impressive 5,897 meters (19,347 feet). As we enter the park, the landscape opens into the vast Andean páramo—a striking ecosystem of rolling grasslands, wildflowers, and distant snow-capped peaks.

We take a gentle walk around Limpiopungo Lagoon, where, on a clear day, the perfect cone of Cotopaxi reflects dramatically in the still waters. Keep an eye out for local wildlife such as wild horses, Andean foxes, and a variety of high-altitude bird species.

This day beautifully combines Ecuador’s rich cultural heritage with the raw, natural beauty of the Andes—offering a memorable contrast between past and present, city and wilderness.

Day-11 Cotopaxi - Full Day

Today is dedicated to exploring one of Ecuador’s most iconic natural wonders—Cotopaxi National Park, home to one of the world’s highest active volcanoes, rising to an impressive 5,897 meters (19,347 feet).

Our journey takes us along the famed Avenue of the Volcanoes, a dramatic corridor of snow-capped peaks first described by Alexander von Humboldt. As we travel deeper into the Andean highlands, the landscape opens into vast páramo grasslands, dotted with wild horses and framed by distant volcanic silhouettes.

Upon entering the park, we stop at the tranquil Limpiopungo Lagoon, where we enjoy a gentle walk along its shores. On clear days, the near-perfect cone of Cotopaxi reflects in the still waters, creating a truly breathtaking scene. This area is also rich in wildlife, offering opportunities to spot Andean birds, wild horses, and foxes in their natural habitat.

We then continue our ascent by vehicle to approximately 4,600 meters (15,000 feet), where the air becomes crisp and the terrain more rugged. From here, a short but rewarding hike leads us to the José Rivas Refuge (4,864 meters / 15,958 feet). The effort is well worth it—standing at this altitude, surrounded by glaciers and sweeping mountain views, is a powerful and unforgettable experience.

Throughout the day, we move at a comfortable pace, allowing time to acclimatize and fully appreciate the dramatic beauty of the high Andes. This experience offers a rare opportunity to connect with Ecuador’s volcanic landscapes in a meaningful and memorable way.

Day-12 Cotopaxi - Papallacta – Otavalo

Today we journey into the high Andes toward the serene setting of the Papallacta Hot Springs, nestled within the unique páramo ecosystem. Surrounded by rolling mountains, misty landscapes, and fresh mountain air, this is the perfect place to slow down and unwind.

Upon arrival, you’ll have time to relax in the natural thermal pools, whose mineral-rich waters are sourced directly from the volcanic activity beneath the Andes. The warm waters, combined with the cool mountain climate, create a deeply soothing and rejuvenating experience—ideal for both body and mind.

After this peaceful interlude, we continue northward through scenic highland landscapes toward the province of Imbabura, often referred to as the “Province of Lakes.” This region is known for its stunning natural beauty, with a tapestry of shimmering lakes, traditional villages, and dramatic mountain backdrops.

As we arrive, the changing scenery offers a beautiful introduction to this culturally rich and picturesque part of Ecuador, setting the stage for the experiences to come.

Day-13 Otavalo - Indigenous Communities

Today we visit the vibrant and world-renowned Otavalo Market, one of the most important and colorful markets in South America. Set against the dramatic Andean backdrop, this bustling marketplace is a true celebration of Indigenous culture, craftsmanship, and tradition.

As you explore the market, you’ll encounter a rich array of handwoven textiles, intricate handicrafts, jewelry, and traditional garments, all created by local artisans from the surrounding communities. This is not only an excellent opportunity to find unique souvenirs, but also to engage with the people behind the craft—many of whom have preserved these techniques for generations.

Following the market visit, we shift from exploration to participation with a hands-on Ecuadorian cooking class. Guided by local hosts, you’ll learn how to prepare traditional dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This interactive experience offers insight into the country’s culinary heritage, flavors, and everyday life—bringing you closer to the culture through its cuisine.

The day concludes with the opportunity to enjoy the meal you’ve helped create, making for a warm, authentic, and memorable cultural experience.
